Lightning Ridge

Visited the “Chambers of the Black Hand” mine. Lots of carvings inside and of course a shop selling Opals. Joy went in the narrow entrance down two levels to about 20 metres, I decided it was too cramped. After lunch we visited the “car door” tourist sites. These are tourist drives marked by a coloured disused car door. Visited the Walk in mine this afternoon. A much more friendly tunnel to enter. Lots of miners shanty’s and mullock heaps, rather like a moonscape.
